The organisation of the school has gone through some changes due to variations in intake numbers. However now our intake is set at 60 which means we have single age classes in Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 and mixed classes in years 3/4 and 5/6. Research shows that children achieve well in both single and mixed year classes.
We have six classes in Reception and Key Stage One (4-7 year olds). All these classes are able to offer excellent staffing ratios as we have six teachers and six experienced teaching assistants.
Our youngest children have their own toilets and cloakrooms; large, very well equipped classrooms, a practical area between the classes and shared external area with play house, climbing frame, bikes, trucks, sand and covered canopy providing fully for the early years curriculum. All children from four to seven have opportunities to share the external areas.
All aspects of the Foundation and Key Stage curriculum are taught and children have many opportunities to work in small groups at their own ability level to ensure they are both supported and challenged. You may be aware of media coverage on the need for schools to provide a seamless and supportive transition from Foundation into and through the Key Stage One curriculum and have external play access. Our early years organisation is able to fully support this.
In Key Stage Two we have three classes for our Year 3 and Year 4 children and three Year 5 and Year 6 classes. The Key Stage Two curriculum is fully covered by all children who show very good progress and high achievement. Children are all challenged at their own level and given support to achieve their best.
