All Primary Schools must teach the following National Curriculum subjects:
English (Literacy)
Mathematics (Numeracy)
Science
ICT (Information and Communications Technology)
History
Geography
Music
Art and Design
Design Technology
Physical Education
Modern Foreign Languages
All children are taught Religious Education and take part in daily assemblies (Collective Worship). Personal and Social Education, Citizenship and Health Education are essential for their all round education.
‘Excellence and Enjoyment’ from the DfES (Government Department for Education and Skills) emphasises the importance of creativity in education.
In all classes we teach the daily literacy and numeracy lessons, focused units of work e.g. in Science and a more integrated approach through topic work where meaningful links can be made between subjects.
We use a mixture of whole class, group and individual teaching, depending on the needs of the children and the demands of the curriculum.
Each year we hold focus weeks. For example our Arts week allowed the children to create a sensory garden and our Science week allowed children to investigate how animals move and also to undertake a variety of different experiments.
We also place an emphasis on children’s emotional and social development enabling them to build friendships and develop their citizenship skills. Our older children ‘man’ Friendship Stops at playtimes and undertake peer mediation training to help ensure all children feel supported, safe and happy.
